Why Exfoliation Matters During a Laser Hair Removal Course

Why Exfoliation Matters During a Laser Hair Removal Course

As a Bloom & Bare franchisee, your job doesn’t end when the laser switches off. ✨

The advice you give your clients between appointments plays an important role in their overall treatment experience. One simple home-care habit worth reinforcing is regular, gentle exfoliation.

But there’s an important word there: gentle.

So, why should laser clients exfoliate?

During a laser hair removal course, clients will still need to shave between treatments. At the same time, dead skin cells naturally build up on the surface of the skin.

Gentle mechanical exfoliation with a sponge can help remove some of this buildup and keep the skin feeling smoother between appointments.

It can also help with one of the concerns we hear about all the time: ingrown hairs and shaving bumps.

Removing excess dead skin may help prevent hairs from becoming trapped beneath the surface, while exfoliating before shaving can help the razor glide more smoothly over the skin.

For your clients, that can mean:

Smoother skin + easier shaving + fewer ingrown hairs + better home care between appointments. 🤍

More exfoliation does NOT mean better results

This is where client education becomes important.

We want clients to exfoliate their skin, not scrub it into submission.

Aggressive or excessive exfoliation can leave the skin red, irritated and compromise the skin barrier. Clients should use their Bloom & Bare exfoliation sponge with light, gentle movements and should never exfoliate skin that is already irritated, sunburned or broken.

Think gentle and consistent, not harder and more often.

What about after a laser treatment?

This is the part every Bloom & Bare client should understand.

Do not exfoliate immediately after laser hair removal.

The treated area may temporarily be more sensitive or red, so clients need to give their skin time to recover before reaching for their exfoliation sponge.

As our Bloom & Bare home-care guideline:

Wait 24 hours after a laser treatment before resuming gentle exfoliation.

If the skin is still irritated or sensitive, the client should allow it more time to settle rather than exfoliating simply because 24 hours have passed.

What should you tell your clients?

Rather than saying “Remember to exfoliate regularly”, give your client a clear instruction they can actually follow:

“Your laser treatment works on the hair follicle, but your skin also needs care between treatments. Gentle exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, supports smoother shaving and can help reduce ingrown hairs. Use your Bloom & Bare exfoliation sponge gently as part of your home-care routine. Never scrub aggressively and give your skin time to recover after every laser treatment.”

Make it part of the Bloom & Bare experience

Great client care isn't only about performing a professional treatment. It’s about educating your client throughout their journey.

Before they leave their appointment, make sure they know:

  • why they should exfoliate
  • how to use their exfoliation sponge gently
  • not to exfoliate immediately after their treatment
  • to wait at least 24 hours and longer if the skin remains sensitive
  • not to exfoliate irritated, sunburned or broken skin

Those few extra minutes of education help your client understand their skin, improve their home-care routine and reinforce you as the professional guiding them through their laser journey.

Franchisee takeaway

Don't just tell your clients to exfoliate. Teach them how and when.

Consistent treatment + good home care + clear professional guidance = a better Bloom & Bare client experience.
